school shooting

I just read the article below. I also travel in my job and wanted people to know about a product I bought from Boston Company Called MJ Safety Solutions It is a Bullet Proof Backpack which I carry my tools in and keep on the front seat of my truck. The pack stops a lot of bullets they actually have video of it being shot many times. I bought two more for my niece and nephew who are going back to school in a couple of weeks. With all the school shootings in this country it will give my sister a little piece of mind know her kids have the My Childs Pack. Next week I am going to buy one of their custom panels to put in my briefcase. Sad we need it but glad you guys in Boston make it.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Less than half the students at Knoxville's Central High School showed up for classes Friday, the day following a fatal shooting in the school's cafeteria.

Flags at Central High School are at half mast. Roses surround the sign that welcomed students back to school one day after a classmate was shot to death in the school's cafeteria.
For some students, there was just a slight concern coming back.

CHS student Anissa Mason says, "Maybe because of the fact that I didn't see it, because I wasn't here. Maybe that's why I'm not too scared."

Others needed to come back, despite their fear.

Mike Clifton says his son is scared to come back.

"The worst of it was this morning. Bringing him back to school, but we wanted to take advantage of the counseling, and that's why he's here."

But dropping a child off to school the day after a school shooting isn't easy for parents either.

Garry Menendez is concerned about his daughter

"There's a little bit of jitters that's going on, at the same time, you wanna make things as normal as they can be."

Cheryl Mason brought her daughter, Anissa, to school Friday.

"A little bit harder, it's a little bit harder for Anissa, and it's going to be a little bit harder for my middle-schooler, but we're going to keep on doing it. We're not going to let it stop us."

For those who felt coming back was too much to bear, others understood.

Anissa Mason says, "You got to go at your own pace. I mean, if you're not ready, you're not ready. Just come whenever you can."

The last 24 hours have given parents and their children a chance to talk, so the healing can begin for them, their school, and their community.

Menendez says, "We need to love the school, not leave it. I mean, this is a great place. There are great things going on here."

School officials say 1,296 students are enrolled at Central High School.

491 showed up Friday.

There are 87 certified staff members at the school, all of them were present.

ABERDEEN - School shootings have become more common across the country, and local law enforcement officers want to make sure school staff are prepared. This morning teachers and faculty at Aberdeen High School were held hostage by gunmen.

With school starting a little bit later this month, administrators, as well as, the Bingham County Sheriff's Office wanted to make sure teachers were aware of the emergency plan and had some real-life experience.

Shots rang out at 10 AM this morning inside the Aberdeen High School as five gunmen took everyone inside hostage.

Then officers with the Bingham County Sheriff's Office, and Aberdeen Police Department arrived to get everyone out safely. Dave Johnson, Bingham County Sheriff said, "The mindset before was to wait them out. but when we start seeing these shootings across the nation, the longer law enforcement waits the more people get injured."

Teachers and students were forced to lay on their faces, pray, and move from room to room during the exercise. In some cases they were even killed.

A few staff members were shaken up by the experience, but they felt the realistic experience was helpful. Armando Garcia, an Aberdeen High School custodian said, "If the situation were true at least we know what to do, what to take care of with the kids and the sitution. How to protect ourselves."

Others were just glad the district had taught them what to do if something ever happened. Teresa Fettis, an Aberdeen High School custodian said, "I think one of the best things is to stick to a policy, and everybody follow through on a plan and everybody know what's going on."

The shooting portion of the training only lasted about 20 minutes, and gave everyone a chance to feel what it would be like to be caught in an actual shooting. Joel Wilson, District 58 superintendant said, "We need to make sure we do everything we can to make sure our school is safe, that our students are safe. And our teachers need to know what they need to do in case of an emergency situation."

By the end of the school year the Bingham County Sheriff's Office will hold a couple of other simulations here at the Aberdeen High School to make sure that teachers remember everything on the emergency plan.

Teen sought in school shooting captured, charged

SEATTLE -- A teenager wanted in a deadly shooting outside a Federal Way middle school last week was arrested and charged on Monday.

Federal Way police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock said 16-year-old Luis F. Cosgaya-Alvarez was caught in West Seattle after investigators received tips about where he was hiding.

Cosgaya-Alvarez, of Kent, is suspected of shooting a 26-year-old man in Lakota Middle School's parking lot before speeding off around 8:20 p.m. Thursday.

Schrock said the gunman was riding with a group of other men in a black Lincoln Navigator when the shooting took place.

The victim, Omero Mendez, had been at the school to pick up his girlfriend's son from football practice, according to the document of probable cause. He confronted Cosgaya-Alvarez and two friends when they used a Lincoln Navigator to block Mendez's car in the school parking lot.

Cosgaya-Alvarez, who was riding in the back seat of the SUV, flashed gang signs, pulled a blue bandana over his face and shot Mendez once, a witness told investigators.

Mendez was shot once in the head. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center where he died.

The King County Prosecutor's office on Monday filed first-degree murder charges against Cosgaya-Alvarez. The teen, who was charged as an adult, has been booked into jail.

A football practice for the Federal Way Hawks, a club team, was just ending at the school when the shooting took place, but none of the players was hurt.

Investigators believe the shooting was not a random incident as the getaway car was seen circling the parking lot during football practice for the past several days.

Found this article about My New Bullet proof backpack

Following the 1999 Columbine shootings, parents and firearms experts Mike Pelonzi and Joe Curran came up with a new way to protect their children: a bulletproof backpack. The product, called My Child's Pack, has a bulletproof panel that kids can use as a shield in case of a shooting, and more than 1,000 have been sold since they were released in August. Some find the idea ridiculous, but Walters' short discussion does nothing to show that it's not a worthy idea.

why I am buying a bullet proof backpack

I never thought I would be buying a bullet proof backpack but after the recent violence in our schools with guns it is clear that a shooting incident can happen anywhere. As a self employed painter I travel around the LA area I watched MJ Safety Solutions video on youtube and also saw a demonstration on a local news station. I even was able to talk to one of the owners of MJ Safety Solutions and he explained about thier bullet proof panel If you call Mike Pelonzi at 978-762-0044
They call one of thier bakcpacks My Childs Pack I ordered the Executive Pack because it would hold my tools and equipment along with my laptop. The best thing was the weight of backpacks only weigh 20 ounces more than the backpack I carry now. I will post again when I get the backpack.
